How to choose the hardness of O-rings?
- For high-pressure or large gap working conditions, high-hardness products with A hardness of 85 to 90 Shore A should be preferred to take advantage of their strong anti-extrusion property to avoid seal failure.
- When the pressure is low and the sealing surface is rough/uneven, the low hardness of 60-70 Shore A is more likely to fill the gap and ensure a good fit seal.
- For most conventional working conditions (medium pressure, moderate sealing surface accuracy), A medium hardness of 75 to 80 Shore A can be selected to balance elasticity and anti-deformation ability.
- Dynamic sealing (such as reciprocating motion) should focus on high hardness to resist wear. Static sealing has a higher tolerance for hardness. For small cross-section O-rings, it is advisable to avoid choosing overly high hardness to prevent installation difficulties.
