Types of O Ring

The O Ring produced by our company mainly include the following types:

氟橡胶O型圈

Fluorine Rubber O Ring

Fluororubber(FKM) o- rings are mainly used for reliable sealing of liquids, gases and other media under extreme working conditions such as high temperature, low temperature and strong corrosion.

硅胶O型圈密封圈

Silicone O Ring Seal

Silicone (VMQ) O-rings are composed of silicon, oxygen, hydrogen and carbon. They are odorless and tasteless, and resistant to oxygen, ozone, ultraviolet rays, mineral oil, vegetable oil, dilute salt solutions, engine oil, transmission oil, non-petroleum-based brake fluid, fuel oil and high-molecular-weight chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbons.

丁腈橡胶O型圈

Nitirle O- Rings

Nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) O-rings are elastomer seals copolymerized from butadiene and acrylonitrile. They have excellent oil resistance (including mineral oil, vegetable oil, fuel oil, etc.) and also have good resistance to solvents, hydraulic oil, etc.

Advantages of O Ring

01/

Multiple Sizes

Rubber O-rings come in an extensive range of sizes, shapes, and configurations, from those small enough to fit in a pen to those large enough to seal pipelines.

02/

Proper Hardness

While hardness is crucial for various applications, the durometer of rubber O-rings can be adjusted to achieve the desired texture for each specific use.

03/

Simple Structure and Design

All rubber O-rings, whether customized or standard, feature a very simple structure and design. This simplicity ensures that they are easy to install and replace, regardless of the application.

04/

Self Seating

Due to their simplicity, rubber O-rings self-seat without requiring any instruments or tool adjustments, which also means they typically require minimal to no maintenance.

05/

Tight Seal

The primary function of a rubber O-ring is to create a tight and secure seal that prevents leakage. This key attribute is why rubber O-rings continue to be widely used.

06/

Cost Effective

Among the materials essential for complex operations, rubber O-rings are the least expensive and most readily accessible.

Applications of O Ring

Transportation

Transportation industries are frequently exposed to abrasive and extreme temperatures. Industries like aerospace, heavy-duty trucking operations, and automotive mechanisms cannot operate effectively with polymer-based and silicone O-rings. Engines, fuel systems, and various propellants also consist of O-ring materials.

Medical

O-rings are indispensable in the pharmaceutical and medical industries providing syringes, filtrations, and various connecting pump components.

Oil and Gas

Operations in oil and gas are a hassle due to intense exposure to pressures, aggressive fluids, high-end temperatures, chemicals, and many more dangerous atmospheres. Thus, there is a need for sealing that is resistant to these abnormal conditions. O-rings are the correct fit for the job.

Food and Beverage

rings are an FDA-approved material for hygienic and safe food processing. They are not hazardous to the body. They prevent degrading wastage by decreasing the rate of wear and tear of cooking products.

O Ring Installation Precautions

Size Matters

Use the right size O-ring for each unique assembly. O-rings that are too small are more prone to tearing and breakage. O-rings that are too large will not provide an adequate seal.

Avoid Overstretching

Each O-ring has a maximum stretch point. Overstretching can cause O-rings to break or tear during assembly or use. Engineers need to ensure that the stretch does not go beyond the maximum elongation of the O-ring. It’s also important to stretch the O-ring evenly, not just on one side or the other.

Slide, Don’t Roll

Rolling an O-ring down a shaft for installation leads to spiraling. Spiral wound O-rings cannot be properly installed and their functionality will be limited. This can result in leaks and/or damage to the finished assembly. Sliding the O-ring into place, rather than rolling it, helps avoid spiraling.

Ease O-rings Over Threads

O-rings are often mated with threaded parts. The threads can easily tear the rubber O-rings. Covering the threads with masking tape during installation and using an assembly lubricant can help protect the O-ring from nicks and tears.

Keep Away From Sharp Edges

Some mated parts may also have sharp corners or edges that can damage O-rings. Sometimes these tears are so small they are not visible, resulting in leakage problems later on. Avoid forcing O-rings onto sharp corners and edges. Lubricating the O-rings makes it easier to slide them into place.

FAQ

Q: How are o-rings measured?

A: O-rings are measured by their inside, outside, and cross-sectional diameter. O-ring measuring tools like rulers or calipers can be used for these measurements.

Q: Do O-rings stop leaks?

A: These components help prevent fluid or gas leakage, ensuring the efficiency and safety of countless mechanical systems. Despite their durability, o-rings are not immune to failure.

Q: Is an O-ring a gasket?

A: By definition, an O-ring is technically a gasket, but not all gaskets are O-rings. O-rings are made exclusively of an elastomer material, resulting in an elastic texture that's able to stretch and revert back to its natural shape and size without breaking. Gaskets, on the other hand, can be made of any material.

Q: How do you know if an O-ring needs to be replaced?

A: Signs of a compromised O-ring may include the presence of cracks, tears, or flattened areas. It is crucial to highlight that certain materials, like silicone and fluorocarbon, exhibit a higher susceptibility to developing cracks and becoming brittle as time progresses.

Q: What is the most common cause of O-ring failure?

A: Compression set.
Hardening & cracking.
Extrusion & nibbling.
Abrasion.
Chemical degradation.
Swelling & shrinkage.
Thermal & pressure cracking.
Installation damage.

Q: How to get O-rings to seal better?

A: On the flip side, a well-lubricated O-Ring can easily slide into place, form a more effective seal, and resist wear and tear like a champ, ensuring it performs robustly for the long haul.
