Nitirle Gasket
Nitrile gasket is a type of sealing device used to prevent gas or fluid leakage between machine parts or pipe joints. It is made of nitrile rubber, a synthetic rubber material that offers resistance to oil, solvents and weathering.

Material properties
Nitrile rubber is a synthetic rubber made by emulsion polymerization of butadiene and acrylonitrile. Its performance is mainly determined by the acrylonitrile content (usually between 18% and 50%).
● Polarity characteristics: The cyano group (-CN) in acrylonitrile molecules has strong polarity, which makes nitrile rubber highly resistant to non-polar or weakly polar oils and solvents (the greater the polarity difference, the worse the compatibility).
● Flexibility and elasticity: The butadiene composition endows it with excellent flexibility and compressive resilience, enabling it to adapt to slight unevenness or vibration on the sealing surface.
● Excellent processability: It is easy to vulcanize and form, and can be made into various shapes of gaskets (such as flat gaskets, O-rings, and special-shaped gaskets), and the cost is lower than that of most special rubbers.
The performance of nitrile rubber (especially its heat resistance and oil resistance) is mainly determined by the acrylonitrile (ACN) content. The higher the content, the stronger the oil resistance and heat resistance, but the worse the low-temperature elasticity. The selection should be based on the temperature range

Acrylonitrile content |
Typical temperature range |
Characteristics of applicable scenarios |
|
Low (18%-29%) |
-40℃ -100℃ |
Preferred for low-temperature environments (such as equipment in cold regions), with medium oil resistance |
|
Medium (30%-39%) |
30℃ - 120℃ |
It is suitable for general use at normal to medium temperatures (such as in automotive gearboxes), with balanced overall performance |
|
High (40%-50%) |
-20℃ -130℃ (short-term 150℃) |
High-temperature oil resistance requirements (such as hot oil pipelines), while low-temperature performance is relatively weak |
The influence of the medium on temperature tolerance
The temperature resistance of nitrile rubber varies depending on the medium it comes into contact with, and the selection should be adjusted in accordance with the type of medium.
Contact with oils (mineral oil, hydraulic oil, etc.): Oils can delay the oxidation and aging of nitrile rubber. The actual upper limit of temperature resistance can be slightly higher than its performance in the air (for example, nitrile rubber with medium acrylonitrile content can withstand 120℃ for a long time in oil, but it is recommended not to exceed 100℃ in the air).
Contact with air or water: The expected temperature resistance should be reduced. The oxidation rate increases at high temperatures. If used in the air for a long time, the upper temperature limit for nitrile rubber with medium acrylonitrile content is recommended to be reduced to 100℃.
Avoid contact with polar solvents (alcohol, ketones, etc.): Such media can cause nitrile rubber to swell, and the swelling intensifies at high temperatures. Even at low temperatures, it may fail, and the material should be replaced first (such as using fluororubber).
