Rubber Coated Wheel

Rubber coated wheels, commonly known as rubber coated wheels. It refers to a wheel made of elastic rubber material firmly covered on the outer circumference of a rigid wheel core (usually steel, cast iron, aluminum alloy or engineering plastic) through vulcanization bonding, cold bonding, sleeve pressing or injection molding. It is not a solid rubber wheel, but a typical "hard core soft shell" composite structure.

Product Introduction

Rubber coated wheels, commonly known as rubber coated wheels. It refers to a wheel made of elastic rubber material firmly covered on the outer circumference of a rigid wheel core (usually steel, cast iron, aluminum alloy or engineering plastic) through vulcanization bonding, cold bonding, sleeve pressing or injection molding. It is not a solid rubber wheel, but a typical "hard core soft shell" composite structure.

The use of rubber coating

Adding rubber coating to wheels aims to utilize the unique properties of rubber to compensate for the shortcomings of pure metal or plastic wheels:
Shock absorption and buffering: The elasticity of rubber can effectively absorb vibrations and impacts during equipment operation, protecting the transported precision goods and the structure of the equipment itself.
Noise reduction and quietness: Rubber has a "soft contact" with the ground, greatly reducing the noise during operation, making it very suitable for use in quiet environments such as offices, hospitals, laboratories, etc.
Increase friction/traction: Rubber can provide a much higher coefficient of friction than metal, prevent slipping, ensure effective driving (especially important for driving wheels) and reliable braking.
Protect the floor: The rubber wheels are soft and will not scratch or wear expensive floors such as epoxy flooring, wooden flooring, marble, tiles, etc. like metal wheels.
High load-bearing capacity: The metal wheel core provides strong structural support, allowing it to withstand heavy loads, while the rubber layer disperses the pressure.
Insulation and anti conductivity: Rubber is a good insulation material that can be used in special occasions that require anti-static or electrical insulation (requiring the use of specially formulated rubber).

Material selection for rubber coating

Natural rubber (NR): Good elasticity and shock absorption, but not resistant to oil and chemicals. Commonly used in general ground and dry environments.
Nitrile rubber (NBR): Its biggest advantages are oil resistance, fuel resistance, and chemical resistance. It is the first choice for oily environments such as factories, workshops, and garages.
Chloroprene rubber (CR): It has good weather resistance, ozone resistance, aging resistance, and also has a certain degree of oil resistance. Suitable for outdoor or humid environments.
Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM): excellent weather resistance, high temperature resistance, and steam resistance. Commonly used in high-temperature cleaning environments (such as food factories, dishwashers) or outdoor environments exposed to long-term sun and rain.
Silicone rubber (SI): resistant to extreme high and low temperatures (-60 ° C to over 200 ° C), non-toxic and odorless, used in high hygiene industries such as food and medical.
Polyurethane (PU): As mentioned earlier, it is super wear-resistant and the preferred choice for many high-performance applications.

Rubber coated wheel types and applications

1. Classified by rubber hardness
★ Soft rubber wheel (high elasticity):

  • Features: Low Shore hardness (such as 50A-70A), excellent elasticity, and the best shock absorption effect.
  • Application: Heavy equipment, precision instrument handling vehicles, airport luggage carts, and platform vehicles with extremely high shock absorption requirements.

★ Hard rubber wheel (high wear resistance):

  • Features: High Shore hardness (such as 85A-95A or even higher), more wear-resistant, stronger load-bearing, but slightly inferior shock absorption.
  • Applications: Forklifts, pallet trucks, industrial shelving trucks, heavy-duty carts, etc.

★ Polyurethane coated wheels (PU wheels):

  • Characteristics: Polyurethane is a special type of elastomer with properties between rubber and plastic. It has extremely high wear resistance, tear resistance, and load capacity, as well as oil and chemical resistance. Usually, the hardness is relatively high.
  • Application: Extremely extensive, from forklifts and AGV cars in factory workshops to supermarket carts and office chair wheels (universal wheels), almost everywhere. It is a strong competitor to rubber wheels.

2. Classify by application scenario

  • Industrial casters: used for various hand carts, equipment handling vehicles, shelves, and workbenches. It is the most widely used type.
  • Drive/driven wheels: used for AGV automatic guided transport vehicles, electric forklifts, conveyor systems, etc. There are extremely high requirements for the friction coefficient and wear resistance of rubber materials.
  • Track wheel: Equipment used to operate on specific tracks, such as cranes, suspension systems, and sliding doors. The rubber layer is used for shock absorption and noise reduction.
  • Guide wheel/idler wheel: used in conveyor belt systems to provide support and guidance. Require rubber to be wear-resistant and not easily adhere to materials.
